SAVE THE QUARRIERS CHURCH COMMITTEE Cottage 8 25/6/04 Planning Application No IC/03/3946. LB/03/019 - Proposal to turn Mount Zion Church Quarriers Village into 12 flats. Dear Sir, The above application has now been with the planning department for a period of several months and the deliberations regarding this application continue.. We now wish to object further to this development on the grounds that this listed building does not need to adopt a change of use to secure its future since an established Church organisation has now offered to take over Mount Zion Church and develop it further for the benefit of the local community. This option must be considered as the best route to pursue since it would preserve intact the building and surrounding grounds for their dedicated original purposes and secure it for future generations to enjoy. The history and heritage aspects of the Church would be preserved and improved for the people of Inverclyde and beyond, whilst providing a church with its many associated functions for the benefit of the ever growing population of Quarriers Village. Destiny Church which is an established contemporary Church showing at present an annual growth of approximately 35 percent has offered to enter into meaningful discussions with Quarriers on the future of Mount Zion, either now, or later should the present application be rejected. We as a committee urge you to support this change of direction from the proposed development of Mount Zion Church into 12 luxury flats which is seen as a very objectionable proposal to many people in this community and to former boys and girls around the world that this wonderful building and surrounding graveyard should be desecrated in such a manner as the above application. |
